04 ✓Comparison API
The challenge
Flyer prices are hard to compare. The same staple comes in different package sizes, products are easy to mismatch, and every city has its own stores and flyers. One wrong match produces a misleading comparison.
The engineering
- Built a Django REST Framework API with JWT authentication, modeling cities, canonical staples, and time-bound offers for each merchant.
- Automated flyer-price collection by city, validating product identity and units before an offer can be published.
- Normalized package sizes into unit prices so offers are compared like for like.
- Added preview runs and per-city evidence reports so data can be reviewed before it goes live.
The result
$/unit
Comparable unit prices for essential staples across retailers and cities, with an evidence trail for every collection run.
